While this is true, it’s also true that the incumbent normally rises in popularity during the summer when voters start to pay attention. I believe Kerry was ahead in the polls in spring 2004 but fell behind as the W campaign began in earnest

I think it's an accurate take. Biden has very slim margins in a handful of states. Not hard to imagine that Trump squeaks by, especially with Biden running a poor campaign.
