Trump was massively aided in this regard by his celebrity and his image as a "successful businessman" as burnished by The Apprentice, his WWE appearances, etc. Hawley and Cotton are standard political stiffs in comparison.

Also the interaction effect of the "successful bizman" image w/ lucking into an v strong economy. While the first was always a con and the second random luck (and picking Obama as predecessor) that may well not have been obvious to low-info voters: he appeared to have delivered!
