Find it so weird that there's *no one* on the left willing to consider, for even a second, that "Defund the Police" was dumb politics and dumb on the merits.

Why would that be weird?

100%. Compounded by (1) zero investment in leadership dev’t. and local party organization, and, (2), virtually no membership turnover in upper party: Pelosi, Feinstein, Schumer and the whole Ensure brigade have been in office far, far too long.

Rank and file Democrats have consistently built up a mythology of the leadership class as being led by 10d chess masters who obviously know more than the unwashed masses. For the general public to even attempt to criticize them is seen as hubris.

The greater truth's that progress is constantly stymied by EVERYONE involved being deeply averse to self-reflection on their own failures, coming up w/excuses+scapegoats, & seeing any critique as a declaration of war. There's much truth amid the angry claims of both center+left.

To me it lays bare how Dem Leadership has never once considered that it might be there job to push back against Right Wing Media Messaging (ie. activists barely pushed "defund the police" in summer, but Fox News ran with it for months).
