Launching a campaign to run again in 2024 would make a lot of sense for Trump -- it would generate a new revenue stream, make GOP afraid to criticize him or break from him, give him response to legal threats ("political persecution!") https://twitter.com/mattyglesias/status/1326871074148143104 …

Will the cult be as strong in 2024? What about his health? It will be interesting to see, he's certainly good at stirring things up.
-
Yeah, it seems to me a very risky idea to have your entire party wait around for an overweight elderly man who'll be 78 in 2024, and who also has both numerous legal cases hovering over him and a notoriously short attention span.

Could announcing one’s candidacy four years ahead of time be a pre-emptive legal (and political) strategy for avoiding prosecution? Trump can argue that Biden is attempting to jail a political rival if he’s already running.

What’s the average age of Trump voters? How many of them will be on the wrong side of the grass in 4 years?

Yall act like Trump is gonna have the capacity to run again. He experienced real mental decline (possibly had a stroke) in the last year, got covid and has a terrible diet. These a better than even money he's not around in '24. Thats not wishing for anything either.

He doesn't have to launch a campaign, he can just tell them that if they cross him he'll run as an independent.

I hope he does run. A. The stank of "loser" is on him now. B. This freezes out Nikki, Cotton, Rubio, Hawley, etc.

True, but gambling on an overweight 74 year old with terrible health practices to be ready for an election four years out is a hell of a gamble. If they throw in their chips, it will be very hard to change course should Trump not be up for it in 2024 (God forbid...)
-
Well, the “change course” will simply be to replace him with Donald Jr. The GOP continues to have the same problem — they are terrified of losing “the base”
