The main thing to understand about Republican thinking is that most of them believe Democrats generally engage in mass vote fraud and always get away with it https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/trump-election-fraud-biden-pennsylvania-lawsuit-voting-transition.html …pic.twitter.com/ZMez76nikB

I don’t understand why you credit them (sophisticated Republican elites, fully read in to party strategy) with sincerely believing this stuff.

I don't understand why *you* credit them with being smarter than they sound. I think they're legitimately nuts.

I just think the evidence (when we win it’s legit, when we lose it’s fraud, Hans von Spakovsky is a celebrated member of our community, preventing people from voting is how we win, etc) points to bad faith rather than sincere belief.

Or try another way: If they truly believed vast conspiracies had stolen the election from Trump, do you think Trump would be in hiding and Pence on vacation and Republican elites playing coy and their lawyers admitting in court that they have no evidence? I don’t.

The argument in my piece is that they believe mass vote fraud is endemic and/but Democrats always get away with it

They don’t think certain people should be allowed to vote and take measures to restrict their participation, but they know this is bad, and they resolve the cognitive dissonance by insisting it’s “fraud.” But they just mean black people voting.

Here VDH tells Tucker voting should be limited to rugged individuals determined to vote on Election Day. They don’t actually believe mass crimes were committed, they’re sad the wrong people were able to circumvent barriers they created, and lying about it. https://news.yahoo.com/hanson-polls-mail-balloting-under-025048388.html …

Right. The fraud is the unworthy exercising the franchise. It’s inherently illegitimate.

I think Sarah Palin's "Real America" distinction is apt here. That is, while I think some GOPers believe in actual fraud, others just believe their voters are more American and therefore more legitimate.

Yep, that's the logic of everything: rural white Americans are the true Americans, everyone else is a guest. Logic behind electoral college, senate, rural overrepresentation, gerrymandering, voter suppression etc.
