Sure but...if "raise the caliber of our swing-district candidates to Slotkin-level" is an unrealistic ask, feel like "make sure that no radical activists protest the police in a way that attracts media attention" surely is too

she seems to be saying that a polarizing politician who is widely viewed as extreme can nevertheless win election by turning out his devoted base of otherwise infrequent voters.....i could swear that during the primary, experts assured us that scenario was impossible

Well but...Trump simultaneously turned out such a base and nevertheless lost election -- despite having a 4ish-point advantage in the Electoral College -- because his perceived extremism alienated so many regular voters...

This is bad logic. there's no random "advantage" or "disadvantage" from the electoral college that you can spot ex ante. it emerges from your base of votes.

I guess my view (informed by admittedly flawed polls) is that Bernie's base is only marginally different than Biden's among reliable voters

Bernie's significantly more popular among non-college white people (and non-college voters more generally) and leaps and bounds more popular among latinx voters. That's a lot of potential. Also not sure why we're limiting to reliable voters in a general election.

Bernie's theory of turning out more irregular voters wasn't a good theory for primaries where the rules are so restrictive but a general election? where the rules have been loosened?

The polling I've looked at most recently suggests Bernie has roughly the same support from non-college whites as Biden. I said "reliable voters" so as to describe the baseline that a Democrat with Bernie's turnout strategy would be working from.https://twitter.com/EricLevitz/status/1249010867229863936 …

In the 4 most recent polls I could find, Bernie Sanders has higher approval among college educated voters than non-college educated ones -- and, in Grinnell's survey, higher approval in the suburbs (especially among suburban women) than in towns or rural areas pic.twitter.com/vupsM6060Q

That said, I believe Bernie demonstrated stronger support among low-social trust voters in some Dem internal polling, and low-social trust voters are underrepresented in surveys (as we just learned). So hard to say anything with confidence imo

One thing you can say with confidence is that Bernie Sanders will never run for president again, so the next left candidate will probably be a very different kind of candidate, making all of this moot on some level.
