I can’t believe Democrats have been having this same stupid internal argument since 2004/early 2005, since the birth of digital campaigning & Dean’s 50-state strategyhttps://twitter.com/meredithshiner/status/1326210415521624065 …

yo if @AOC AND @DougJones are saying the same thing, maybe the issue with Democrats’ campaign operations is not ideological but structural. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/11/10/democrats-anxious-after-election-performance-435600 … pic.twitter.com/8xbnUxtqOu

wasn't the story last week that the Democrats were idiots for contesting senate seats in red states?

I think the deeper problem is that the small donor revolution, although good for party in many ways, also leads to over-investment in emotionally satisfying but very unlikely races (Kentucky).

That's definitely a problem. And you need a way to get that intensity of cash to more long term stuff. BUT I do think it's a mistake of this debate to think that there's not a lot of supply elasticity on the money.

Way too much conversation about "well, if only money we spent in x went to y". Scarcity of resources was NOT the issue this cycle, even though every Democratic organizer defaults to thinking that it is.

Agree w/ Dennis. Some D candidates had far more $ than they needed to compete, but I still haven't seen any cases where a viable D fell short b/c of lack of $ -- which happens in most years. Old-style DCCC/DSCC control concentrated on a few competitive races. 1/2

Small-donor revolution undoubtedly puts too much money into emotionally satisfying long shots, like McGrath, but base is so much broader, and some long shots do break through. Let people waste a little money on their dreams. Overall, an improvement on DSCC/DCCC hyper-caution. 2/2
