Not sure I buy that in the Nader case. In 2000 I knew a fair number of non-hardcore types (including myself) who would vote Green on occasion. Different now. I was in California, not Florida, sure. But in Florida you only needed 1% of the Nader voters to flip the state.

Definitely true in 2016. There’s no way Jill Stein gets 50,000 votes in Michigan and Wisconsin if those voters thought Trump had a chance to win. Many didn’t like Clinton that’s true but they would’ve held their nose and voted for her if they thought it was going to be close.
