I didn't think Biden was 2020's guy and I felt the Dems were too timid on policy. But, now, seeing how hugely popular Trump remains, I think they made the right call. Has any incumbent president lost* while increasing their vote before? Not Bush, Carter, Hoover or Taft. *🤞

Or maybe Biden ran a bad campaign which ended up much closer than it should have been and almost any other Democrat would have been better?

Every Dem other than Booker, Bullock, and maybe Buttigieg would have gotten demolished.

Meh. Dems twice ran the same campaign against Trump with poor results (losing electoral college narrowly once and winning it narrowly the second time). Maybe that shows the limits of this approach. Main advantage of Booker etc is they wouldn't run zombie campaign.

I doubt it will be narrow when the dust settles.

Not narrow in popular voter -- it's a massive repudiation of Trump. But in electoral college terms, very close states made the difference.

But then that’s an institutional problem, not necessarily a campaigning problem.

I just get very tired of seeing Democrats look at margins like this and immediately thinking, "What a disappointment." This is an incredible achievement given the extent of disenfranchisement and suppression.

I agree - 52% in the popular vote in a year when Republicans kept the Senate and took back seats in the House is impressive.

Downballot is a different story, but coattails alone don't decide those. You have to have the right candidate in the right race.

Plus politics are, as the saying goes, local - you might hate Trump cause he’s crass, but like what your GOP gov/sen does for your state.
