I didn't think Biden was 2020's guy and I felt the Dems were too timid on policy.
But, now, seeing how hugely popular Trump remains, I think they made the right call.
Has any incumbent president lost* while increasing their vote before? Not Bush, Carter, Hoover or Taft.

Well, sure, but that's only because we have this weird winner-take-all system with the states. Look at electoral and popular together, and this result won't be substantially different from Republican victories in 2004 and 2016, after which they loudly claimed a mandate.

But then that’s an institutional problem, not necessarily a campaigning problem.

I just get very tired of seeing Democrats look at margins like this and immediately thinking, "What a disappointment." This is an incredible achievement given the extent of disenfranchisement and suppression.

I don't think there's really a candidate-selection strategy that maximizes the EC vs. The electoral vote. Trump blundered into that in 2016, but I I don't think it's reproducible. If it were, it would probably mean running away from "coastal liberalism."

Possible that a more progressive candidate would've outperformed Biden, but equally so that the "Biden riots" strategy would've done actual damage vs. a Bernie or Warren.

Re closeness in EC terms, this victory will be by a larger margin (presuming 306-232) than Nixon, GWB I/II, John Adams, Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter, JFK, and Trump. Just below Harry Truman. Perspective.

Also, didn’t Bullock just lose by 10?

In a state Biden lost by 16 and Hillary lost by 20.
