I didn't think Biden was 2020's guy and I felt the Dems were too timid on policy.
But, now, seeing how hugely popular Trump remains, I think they made the right call.
Has any incumbent president lost* while increasing their vote before? Not Bush, Carter, Hoover or Taft.

Not narrow in popular voter -- it's a massive repudiation of Trump. But in electoral college terms, very close states made the difference.

It's easy to put up counterfactuals. For example, it's at least as believable that someone other than Biden would have gotten trashed. I really don't get the argument "People returned conservative reps and senators, so they CLEARLY would have embraced candidates further left".
