I tend to subscribe to what @AdamSerwer said. The alt right leaders will probably themselves lose. But many of their ideas will enter the main bloodstream of the right. And the more politically savvy ones will find a way to sanitize their viewpoints.

Yup. There's always headlines about them. They inflame tensions more than Milton Friedman or talking about tax cuts. People also forget that the 1972 election gave birth to a slew of young conservative activists. Ratfucking started at USC I believe

Yup. Particularly you see it in Arizona and Texas's Republican Parties. California's GOP is already there. Virginia's GOP is there too when it ousted Riggleman for Bob Good. It's more interested in culture war than winning elections.
