Chariots of Fire is weirdly formless and meandering — and it’s supposed to be uplifting! I could never figure out why I was supposed to care about anybody except Ian Holm.
Also like Crash it was the winner over a much better movie they were scared to give it to.
It was not a bad movie. I agree it was not a best picture (although have no complaint with the score getting the Oscar). However, it was not "The English Patient" or "Oliver" bad.
You take that back about "Oliver!" When I was a little boy it was magic. And I love that Reed recycled his backdrop!
