Good thread. I'll add: the probability is that Biden will win the expected 7% or more & a clear-cut victory in electoral college as well. But there's a real possibility (in the neighborhood of Nate Silver's 12% ) that things could go badly wrong.https://twitter.com/jtlevy/status/1321285538662518787 …

It would be as absurd as lamenting all that wasted house insurance you paid for when your house never burnt down.

As in, “We didn’t need a Pandemic Response Team last year, or the year before that, so why would we need one next year?”

Short of a very clear Biden/Democratic victory (and even then): 1) Trump refuses to concede, the militias get going, things hit the fan. 2) America's traditional allies immediately distance themselves, US is certified unreliable, look for alternatives.

And if the Democrats win: They spend 4 years making speeches, engage in milquetoast policymaking, spend months chasing *their own members* just to pass something, which is struck down sooner or later by a Supreme Court they wouldn't expand because they believe in institutions.

I still remember hearing Glenn Beck on my car radio saying we should be raising bees so we have honey when the world ended on 1/1/2000. I was pregnant, due on 12/31/1999 & in a panic. My husband rolled his eyes-and of course, he was right. Hope election will be the same.
