Also, the operative word wasn't "emails". Love them or not, the Clintons operated under the idea of "well, is it technically legal?" for years, so the email server story played into a negative people were predisposed to believe: that the Clintons thought they were above the law.

I think that's overlooked when people compare 2016 to 2020. HRC did something *not great* relating to emails that neither she nor people defending her could really ever adequately justify. Whereas Biden hasn't engaged in any email-related sketchiness at all.
