So I re-read Dune thinking I could write something about the new adaptation, which now won't be out for another year. Still worth it though! Dune is good, even more impressive than I remember it. At times clunky but with with a cumulative visionary grandeur.

I went through a number of cycles of going through the whole damn thing, the first two were sort of awful and then the later ones were interesting but also boring and sprawling. The son's reboots (prequels, I forget) were barely readable.

There is always (and I'm somewhat serious) Doon, the National Lampoon parody which as parodies do brings into sharp relief aspects of the original that I may not have attended to as well as they did.

Dune Messiah is gold and necessary even, but the others can be left by the wayside. All the value in Children of Dune appeared in the very good miniseries on Syfy channel.

Right but I think anyone who understands Dune will know the ending is tragic and so DM feels ... I dunno ... superfluous? I'm going on 40 year old memories here.
