1. Speaking of Sacha Baron Cohen, I'll confess that I was partly wrong in anticipating the worst from Sorkin's Chicago 7 movie (where Cohen plays Abbie Hoffman). I thought Sorkin's earnest liberalism would completely miss the anarchic spirit of 1960s.

Thank you for this, especially the two quotes at the end.

Yeah, I keep telling my students that actual history is more dramatic than the dramatists who think they can 'improve' it in their renditions, and I should probably start adding 'funnier'

While almost none of the stuff involving Ramsey Clark depicted in the movie actually happened, I am glad that Sorkin correctly depicts him as the best Attorney General in US history.

1) I've doubts whether any who didn't live through it would be able to capture the manic flavor of The http://Yippees.You 're complaining it's not a documentary, but Sorkin's task was to make a watchable film. His objectives were rhetorical, not historical accuracy.

The more I reflect on this movie the more I hate it. SBC was great as Abbie. That’s all. Small thing, but bra burning is a myth and wouldn’t have happened there and then even if it was a true thing. Gratuitous. Worst was Rubin portrayal.

Wow, so disappointed. I just watched it and always have side-eye for mainstream product of any kind now sadly it’s almost always correct. Thanks for illuminating the bullshit in this film.

Old enough to have followed trial closely. Sorkin misses the extent to which defendants made (revealed?) trial as absurd comedy. Also, serious Frank Langella was the last person on earth to play Judge Hoffman, who was recognized by ALL as a total lightweight who’d be reversed.
-
While his conduct was terrible, Judge Hoffman scared NOBODY. His knowledge of law, & control of courtroom were feeble. No one on either side expected verdict to stand. Reversal surprised no one on Earth. Decision not retry: same.
