Bad sign. Biden has said there won't be more trade agreements, but is now making the UK-USA free trade agreement contingent upon the Belfast peace accords. Trading away domestic sectors for peace in other countries is classic problematic diplomacy.https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/us/biden-warns-us-uk-trade-deal-will-not-happen-if-belfast-agreeme0nt-undermined-1.4384140 …
So Biden could just do nothing and it would go default to WTO rules?

Yes. The UK-USA FTA is about boosting the American pharmaceutical industry. The NHS is the largest buyer of pharma in the world, and it buys at a very low cost. It's also about lowering British food inspection standards so we can sell them chlorine washed chicken.

I don't really care about this FTA, it's more the pattern. America has a post-WWII tradition of trading away our domestic industries for no reason except our diplomats like to be in the center of everything. It's why Trump was elected. We can't afford it anymore.

US trade deal not actually that popular in the UK, because of food/agriculture issues, but the Tories have talked up the notion of FTAs with US and other 'Anglosphere' countries as an economic alternative to EU. Not sure how much they believe it themselves.
