Enough shilly-shallying and subtweeting. This is a bad op-ed that justifies a tradition of elite impunity that endangers democracy.https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/truth-reconciliation-tribunal-trump-historians/2020/10/16/84026810-0e88-11eb-b1e8-16b59b92b36d_story.html?utm_campaign=wp_todays_headlines&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&wpisrc=nl_headlines …

The contradiction at the heart of Lepore’s piece: she says, here, that all our institutions are culpable & complicit; then she turns around & says, ‘But hey, our existing institutions can do all we need in terms of establishing the truth & holding
& his enablers accountable.’ -
Isn’t this all a moot point? Isn’t a Truth And Reconciliation commission something that is created after a period of tyranny, and in which there is broad, multiparty participation? That’s the “reconciliation” part, right?

Whatever she says about what is (not) a “strong argument,” elsewhere explicitly states, “the Trump administration [...] should be investigated by journalists, chronicled by historians and, in some instances, tried in ordinary courts.”
