I was expecting an October surprise but "Joe Biden loves his family" has taken me off guard as a Trumpian argument.

So you believe the texts are real?

It's equally hilarious whether they are real or fake.

They are doing this to establish the veracity of the material, so they can then dump some super incriminating and most likely doctored stuff. It is a strategy.

It’s telling that this , as well as the Mr Rogers comparison, is what the Trump campaign thought was an effective targeting strategy. “Only losers care about other people and exhibit empathy “

I don't think the text messages is their end game. I think the Trump campaign wants to replicate the late-October surprise they got in '16. (The Comey letter only hit Oct 28.) But I'm skeptical of its effectiveness when he's down >10 pts and so many people are voting early.
-
They definitely waited too long to jump out and yell, "Surprise!" The timing was always going to be difficult though - too early and it's debunked before voting even starts, so they waited, but I think they waited about two weeks too long. A 1+ year plan, wasted.
