It's something you disagree with, but that's separate from crazy talk. It's a foundational goal of labor movement, which is decades old, global, and filled with millions of non-crazy people.

You have to take the essay's argument on its own terms. It's suggesting that looking to the "original meaning" of the Reconstruction amendments could lead you to read the privileges and immunities as creating a right to employment. I think that's plainly wrong.

Bingham, who was largely responsible for writing it, was clear that the clause was intended to give Congress the authority to ensure that every US citizen had the rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, regardless of what state they lived in.
