Real talk: I don't think the Coens quite knew what they were trying to achieve with O Brother, Where Art Thou? , but the music is so good and there are enough great moments that we tend to gloss over what a dogs breakfast it is

Strongly disagree: it's held together not just by the Homeric plot but also the related thematic concerns about populism and homecoming. Like Hail Caesar, a deceptively episodic surface hides strongly coherent undercurrents.
