Gosh. I'm 68. However did I discover Billie Eilish and Lizzo? Couldn't have been a cue from my son -- he's 34.

People discover different kinds of music as they get older. Less waiting for the next Nirvana, more about discovering Jazz, rockabilly, and opera. You care a bit less about the next "new thing" and more about exploring the huge universe of music that already exists.

Same for film.

I mean it's not like this person coined the notion, it's pretty widely accepted https://www.businessinsider.com/why-we-stop-discovering-new-music-around-age-30-2018-6 …

I'm in my 40's. I get bored with the same old thing and love to explore. I don't find much value any pop music, ever, so today's pop is no different. Older pop is ok for nostalgia's sake.

Anecdotally, I can see what she’s saying. Although, I’d put it at a much later age, such as 32-34.

I think it's possible people stop trying new genres of music at some point, and then new genres of music pop up. I think people know what genres of film and books they like at some point too. But if you like bluegrass then you are excited to hear new bluegrass.

its essentially true. that doesn't mean new music is not discovered, it only means that other things take priority to discovery. I seem to recall a study that stated music discovery stops at age 35.
