Just think of how pissed off AG Sulzberger must be about those covert changes to the 1619 Project to have (presumably) signed off on Bret Stephens' double-plus-length column eviscerating it, knowing full well how much it would antagonize the leftward portion of the staff.
No but it's the book he made his scholarly reputation on and it's a telling lacunae.

I haven't read the book. But I looked up Linda Kerber's review & her point was that b/c Wilentz focuses on skilled trades, his account (by his admission!) relegates both women & blacks to the margins. Not sure what this has to do with allegedly evading slavery.
