Just think of how pissed off AG Sulzberger must be about those covert changes to the 1619 Project to have (presumably) signed off on Bret Stephens' double-plus-length column eviscerating it, knowing full well how much it would antagonize the leftward portion of the staff.

Yes, rich white people generally don't like to think about the history and legacy of slavery.

If there’s one thing James McPherson never liked to think about, it’s the legacy of slavery.

Yes, because none of the people who greenlit the project, awarded it a Pulitzer, chose to make it part of California's state curriculum, and paid NHJ to give talks about it were rich white people.

You can acknowledge the horrible history of slavery in America without falsifying history....but i get it, its impossible to be a decent human being if a person doesn't agree 100 % with you....

Yes, you're right, historians like Gordon Wood and Sean Wilentz who have extensively written and spoken about the history of slavery really hate thinking about it.

The absence of black people in Chants Democratic (when they were 10% of New Yorks population in the period Wilentz covered) is one of the major criticisms academic reviewers made of the book.

Yea. What scares them shitless is other people might. It is like watching the end of Colonialism again. So, they say, racism is over and was just an illusion really but we still get to keep all the good jobs, the assets and all the university places and cool stuff right?
