This is an excellent thread, which goes beyond the initial dunk (which others have done) to make an astute analysis of class in rural America.https://twitter.com/SarahTaber_bww/status/1314578622246719488 …

The hinterland petty bourgeois, the small town bigwig (often a doctor or business owner), has been the base of the revanchist right for, I dunno, the last 200 years. They were the fans of Napoleon III, of Mussolini, of Poujade, of Trump. That's the class worth analyzing.
Rich white people rarely commit random acts of violence against Black folks, indigenous people, and poor folks. They have the police, the military, and the Senate for that.
When they do, our justice system let’s them go
Both sides engage in mythmaking. The thread you RTed implies the rural poor are mostly BIPOC, which is objectively untrue:https://twitter.com/SarahTaber_bww/status/1314578629670711298 …

I think there’s also a splitting hairs discussion of what “poor white rural people” is Because, while this example is of a guy who obviously isn’t technically “poor”...most liberals would still consider him “trailer trash” (and would probably say he’s “poor” culturally)
Most liberals? Evidence?
Hinterland petty bourgeois who aspire to be feudal lords.
I keep thinking of these guys' obsession with Sparta - the 'molon labe' stickers, etc. The only way to do Sparta is to have an elite warrior upperclass supported by the labor of a vast, savagely oppressed workforce. That's the dream here.
Also vaguely familiar from elsewhere in American history...
