I don't exactly want to defend von Mises, but when I went to look up that quote ... it seemed part of a more nuanced analysis. On topic, I'd describe it as direct versus representative democracy; or "democratic republic" when trying to hold a conversation with conservatives.

And I do worry about authoritarians (right and left, but especially on the right); anyone who can accept authoritarians isn't an ally for me. So I don't really want to defend von Mises on this, even if he just intended to acknowledge the temporary popularity of fascism.
