I would argue that all the people getting sick and dying is the most catastrophic aspect of the pandemic. But yes, remote learning is bad. Well run societies have managed to avoid by flattening curve, testing-and-tracing etc. Teachers aren't responsible for failures on that.https://twitter.com/jonathanchait/status/1313856193643917312 …

Yeah, but Chait’s paycheck depends on his willingness to #bothsides everything, so here we are.

you can imagine a world where we were paying teachers hazard pay, guaranteeing extra sanitary supplies and cleaning services, installing emergency ventilation, etc. and the teachers unions were still saying no, and if so he might have a point, but we are not in that world

Teachers (history) do bear some responsibility though - for perpetuating the myth of American exceptionalism and rugged individualism.

Nor was their Job ever meant to be front-line Healthcare work. I don’t envy Teachers at the best of times. Like this?? Insane workloads and stress.

Get a grip on yourself, @jonathanchait. Over 200,000 US dead, and counting, innumerable lives destroyed, economy cratering, and you're focused on Zoom lectures? WTAF?🤡

Experts say in-person teaching can be safe if safeguards not possible are followed and funds not allocated be spent. This is dumb Chait showing up, again.

I've been waiting for this article and I figure that Mr. Chait's lack of initiative has to take the blame for its delayed appearance.
