1. I think this is astute. There's definitely subset of the population that can't "see" Trump's charisma. It's like color blindness or tone-deafness: they can be told about it but they can't experience it (true to some degree of all charismatic figures but Trump more than most)https://twitter.com/BlanksSlate/status/1311001032512729088 …

QAnon is a brick thrown by someone wearing a thin blue line.

This sounds like the nihilists you describe see him as a means to an end, not that they're swayed by his charisma.

this is a confusing and extremely loaded analogy at this particular moment, wouldn't you say?
-
this also is a misreading of why ppl are attracted to Q-Anon, which is at the end of the day a fantasy of order and hierarchy

I don’t know about this. I’ve read Trump support as people having the same sense I do that things are gravely wrong in this country. Healthcare, earnings, property ownership, debt, the ability to get ahead is all very flawed. And the message of I alone can fix it is very strong.

That it is a feeling of fantastic hope. Especially since the biggest chunk of his support is going from being culturally dominant to being a majority minority group in the country. That they are losing that sense of cultural supremacy. It’s a lot of change in 70 years.

I have a hard time finding any personal qualities in Trump that withstand even a modicum of scrutiny.

I've talked with some supporters and the ones that I talked to had 1 thing in common. They come from very abusive, neglected families, upbringing. Once you know about Trump's upbringing I think you can understand what it is that they have in common and what draws them to him.

That nihilism is probably coming from anger. That comes from hurt. when there is abuse and neglect, a child learns to manipulate and distrust. But there is always a lot of anger too so they feel wronged (might be true as a child) but they project it on the world.
