Barrett, Kavanaugh and Roberts all worked on Bush v. Gore. It turns out that was an important ritual in becoming a made man in the GOP legal world.https://www.dailyposter.com/p/likely-trump-scotus-pick-worked-to …

We probably need histories of the conservative legal movement that focus less on Potemkin intellectual concepts like "orginalism" and focus more on partisan bonding over Clinton impeachment & Bush v. Gore.

The stakes appeared quite a bit lower back then, you must admit. I do not things would go the same way in terms of public or opposition response.

Thank you. People forget that 2000 was a very low turnout election where the prevailing public mood was that both candidates were functionally the same and the results didn't much matter. 2020 is...not like that.

Sometimes capitulation is the honorable option. It's clear the Bush campaign would destroy the country to force through his victory, and Gore wasn't willing to do so. It was the right choice in a terribly unjust situation.

Remains in the background how much Biden concedes to Republicans. Oh how I wish Obama had picked a real fighter for his VP.
-
It’s time for Biden and his campaign to make some kind of declaration. “We will wait till all votes counted” type of thing

His quick surrender? Once SCOTUS ruled, it was over. What was he supposed to do, put together an army?

Gore conceded on election night when it looked like he was going to lose Florida, then retracted his concession once Florida turned out to be closer than expected. It set the tone for the whole affair by putting Gore on the defensive from the start.
