Hilarious divide in response to this tweet between Dems saying 1) no one is attacking her on religion and personal life and 2) Dems saying it's okay and even necessary to attack on religion and personal life. I rest my case.https://twitter.com/HeerJeet/status/1309654333412110336 …

"Attack on her religion" is a right-wing frame that's intended to delegitimize questions about her reactionary ideology.

There are a lot of people who share her religion without having her reactionary ideology, so it's a political mistake to bring religion into it since it'll sound to those people like they are also being criticized. Focusing on the ideology should be the goal.

Nobody has any problem with her being Catholic, per se. And ridiculous to think that a party that picked a Catholic nominee for president is acting out of any generalized anti-Catholic bias.

I don't see any other way of interpreting Feinstein's "he dogma lives loudly in you" comment than as being about Barrett's religion than her ideology.

She said to Barrett “You have a long history of believing that your religious beliefs should prevail.” There’s no question what dogma she was talking about.

The question of whether an individual can keep their religious beliefs separate from their jurisprudence is totally separate from whether it's OK to be Catholic (which, obvs yes). I'm skeptical of any GOP nominee because they're picked to impose religion undermine separation.

I'm pretty confident Barrett (or any of the other Catholic judges appointed by the GOP) will apply Catholic social teaching on death penalty, economics, or just war. So it's better to see her & them as GOP partisans, rather than as religious zealots.
