I think it’s more charitable to say Appalachian whites are among the most insular, endogamous, unassimilable and deprived minority groups in nation. And there’s very little discourse of uplift and respectability speaking to them as with racial minorities. Catnip for Trumpism.

People in Iowa take their religion rather seriously. I've driven across Iowa several times, and the small radio stations with firebrand pastors who sound like they are broadcasting out of a bunker using tin cans are just wild!
