Well, the popular liberals who look at these see, in part, what the conspiratorial mindset wants them to see---history, in a word. That these "happenings" have a history that certifies their train of thought. The train originated further back than you think, ergo legitimacy.

Clarification: Of course I don't believe the histories that these folks construct! I just wanted to relay that they *need* some kind of vaguely plausible history to help construct their alternate reality. It's part of their evidential tool belt.
