      I just think Hobsbawm was wrong on this. 2008 completely overshadows 1989. But you can specify this option if you want

      No Hobsbawm was right. 2008 was an offshoot of the neo-liberal triumph that 1989 made possible. 1989 was the true pivot

          I'm going to dare say that 911 and the rise of digital capitalism in the early 2000s is a new era. So we can stop in 1989, or put a flag in 2001/2002––with the war on "terror," Google's introduction of CPC pricing (we became the product) and the expansion of digital surveillance.
