1. This Danielle Pletka op ed on why she's more afraid of Biden than Trump has been much dunked on -- expertly & hilariously so by @petridishes & @dandrezner -- but it does help clarify limits Democrat's efforts to win over disaffected Republicans.https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/i-cant-stand-trump-but-democrats-may-force-me-to-vote-for-him/2020/09/14/1cf10518-f6c4-11ea-a275-1a2c2d36e1f1_story.html …

The trade stuff is definitely not giving standard Republicans what they want.

Not ever sure about that. The NAFTA amendment was minor & lots of big business types have soured on China & wanted gov't to take a harder line. This precedes Trump.

No reason except the collapse of the domestic economy, increasing eruptions of violence among gun-toting self-styled vigilantes, & hellworld fires, droughts & storms.

I guess embarrassing is one way to think about racism and xenophobia, but it's all good.

In strictly political terms, if standard Republicans actually care about the rule of law in our country, then they have every incentive to vote for Joe Biden. Further, do standard Republicans actually support a president cowering before Russia, even as it is targeting our troops?

I'm confused by your thesis that Trump gives the GOP everything it wants in policy. They want trade protectionism? To absolutely explode deficits? Or do they just want whatever Trump wants? If so, then this is just circular logic, and they have no real policy preferences.
-
Exploding the deficit has been a GOP preference since at least the 80s

The fact that she is going to vote for Trump is not surprising. What is annoying about her column is that her argument boils down to: "The devil made me do it." It's cowardly of her to not admit that her vote is her own.
