It looks like USA will overtake Italy in per capita Covid deaths (or rather official per capita Covid deaths) in a few days. We've been inured to Covid news but this is remarkable and shocking.

To be fair, there will also be a lot of poorer countries than the USA far outpacing our record. Like Senegal which is currently rated #2 in the world on their excellent response to the pandemic.
