right, it's like, it'd be otherwise if most of them were constantly touting the need to understand history to judge the present, but thankfully, they've all been engaged in quiet scholasticism.

yeah ok alex i just don’t think it’s fair to say an interview on the socialist website is what caused the third red scare, i think their judgment was bad but it’s not entirely their fault

Not just the interviews. Wilentz sent around an open letter the tried to get people to sign. The fact that he could only get a few people, mostly on the older side and none of them black, to sign is telling.
