I think it's actually not that hard to square the circle on wanting both a) less unilateral US action and b) a proportionately stronger and more influential US (in terms of economy/population size, at least) in the year 2050 than we're currently on track for.

The two things can even be complementary, especially if increased immigration fosters improved ties with immigrants' countries of origin.

More multipolarity, which is inevitable, means a return to something more like the 19th century than we’ve seen in a long time. Certainly not greater liberalism, understood as human rights, international law, etc.

The US government just sanctioned an ICC prosecutor. I'm not sure American hegemony is upholding international law at the moment.
