The Kael thing bothers me because dunderheads like Shapiro know about 8 or 9 facts & quotes which they trot out constantly, and they sometimes get those wrong as well.

This is the most brutal thing to happen to Pauline Kael since Renata Adler wrote about her.

Imagine being Ben Shapiro—a man who brags about having learned nothing law school and whose job is mostly to say mean things about liberals—and calling Paul Krugman—a Nobel-winning economist who teaches at a prestigious university—a “pseudo-thinker.”

I'd be surprised if his audience knew who Pauline Kael was, or if Shapiro knew who she was. As shorthand for "clueless liberal" it isn't very current or relevant.

I love "pseudo-thinkers and pseudo-journalists" tossed in the direction of a Nobel laureate by someone whose first bio line is "editor emeritus" of a website he started 5 years ago.
