It's truly weird. The whole idea of mathematical proofs is that you're supposed to be able to communicate *why* things are true - He seems to think that truth in math is defined by authority, and that attempting to "prove" things undermines that authority.

I think he's trying to tie this in to some culture war thing about "objective truth" vs, i guess, some kind of "woke" way of thinking that involves thinking about other perspectives (oh no!) But mostly he's just dumb.

I searched the article and it does not mention the term "set'. It is more on the imperfect correspondence of math with the real world which should not really require you to say "2 + 2 = 5"
