2. Racist incitement isn't, in Trump's case, just an electoral strategy, although he ratchets it up whenever election is close. It's also the whole point of governing: this is what he's here for.

3. Racial incitement sometimes works for Trump (it did in 2016 but sometimes backfires (the caravan issue fizzled in 2018). But real success from Trump's point of view is that whether it wins him election or not, it advances his view of the world.

Why are we so sure that more violence helps Trump? I’m not saying it can’t help him, but how do we know. Where is the evidence. Polls (may) have tightened a bit after the conventions. What else?

It doesn't matter if it will help, they think it will help. So they will do it and see if it helps. They don't really care about the lost life or the damage done. They don't even care about the voters they are trying to scare, other than that they vote for the
