Andrew is not saying that fascism is preferable to disorder. He's saying that order is essential (a precondition of other goods, incl liberty and justice) and so if liberals don't defend it, fascists will step into the vacuum and benefit politically from doing so. Which is true. https://twitter.com/EmmaMAshford/status/1299713506355417093 …

If you maintain order, fascists have no room to create much of anything.

But in that context even more disturbing to see the Kenosha shooter just walk past the lawful authorities

Fascists use disorder to their advantage. They create the disorder and then they more easily than other groups profit from that disorder. The problem is that we are letting the left and the right create disorder and a liberal democracy cannot survive long such disorder

I think the point is that fascists gain power by portraying themselves as the people who will enforce law and order when no one else will. Whether they do and can is another matter. I think in the context of the US today, Trump has the opposite effect of catalyzing disorder.

Isn't it worthwhile to call out the fascist claim to stand for law and order as a lie and point out that they themselves are inciting chaos? I mean that's what Biden has been doing. Conversely isn't it a mistake to credit Trump as an agent of order, as you and Sullivan do

They sow disorder first to dismantle democracy, but that little detail is lost on liberals.

They are the firefighters to their own arson. And they do it by design.
