2. Biden actually talks more about his faith than any major Democratic figure in recent decades -- I think you'd have to go back to Carter to find an equivalent. Doesn't matter to Christian right because Biden's liberal Catholicism is anathema.

3. Biden is a very mainstream American Christian in that for him Christianity is a mixture of church-going, good works, and social amelioration. For Christian nationalists, the faith is about preserving God's country, an idealized version of 1950s America really.

4. Christian nationalism in a nutshell is Mike Pence replacing "Jesus" with "Old Glory" in a speech paraphrasing 2 Biblical verses. In effect: America (the old white dominated America, the "real" America) is God.pic.twitter.com/zUiZyTF19I

This sinister, encroaching, approach of militant christian nationalists is something that doesn't get enough attention. Mr. Trump might be using them as "just another lever" in his run on our country, but the effects are lasting.

One of the biggest mistakes the "liberals" made (and I'm guilty of this, too) was to mock or disparage the notion one's faith informs one's politics. Of course it does. It just can't be the sole arbitrator on policy nor can one particular faith have dominance over all the others.

Same. Both Biden and Obama’s politics are rooted in their faith, I think. It’s just a very different expression of Christianity than, say, Rubio’s or Robertson’s.

Christian nationalists use Christ as a prop... their whole religious experience is about the nationalism part.

That is incredibly disturbing. It may come as a surprise to some of these guys that Jesus was in fact not an American... I'm a bit vague on where Mormons fit in to that assertion, but nevertheless.

And he was Jewish
