My sense of Tim Alberta is that he’s earnest, soft-headed, & a fool. I mean, he sincerely thinks Paul Ryan is a serious person & has been incredulous when people point out that Ryan is a dishonest, careerist, substance-free hack.
So the answer is, when you boil it down: no. Which is a problem, I think.

Not at all. I have learned and even changed my mind on certain topics because I both respected the author and shared a common view of the world even if I disagreed with their position (Krugman on trade)

To me the point that is generally missed is that persuasion requires a comom set of facts and trust. Without both we are just talking to ourselves
