I've long thought Joyce Carol Oates was a master of gothic horror on par with Poe. What I didn't know is that she'd achieve her her biggest impact with a foot selfie. (Will not repost original tweet because it is too much).https://twitter.com/m_tisserand/status/1294782555565240320 …

Oates is a brilliant writer, agreed. But, seriously, about her foot. It's gross, yes, but it looks similar to what I experienced after being bit by a venomous spider. She could lose her foot if that's the case. Left untreated, the tissue dies.

Only hoping people obsessing over Ms. Oates know she’s the recipient of a National Book Award and 2 O. Henry Awards. If you’ve not read her, please do.

So bizarre. I just read a rather negative book review from 1981 authored by @JoyceCarolOates . Is poet Anne Sexton seeking revenge from the great beyond? #JoyceCarolOates

She absolutely needs to show this to her doctor. The rest of the planet would be better off avoiding it. Long story short: A horrible reaction to a poisonous plant or venomous creature. She is in serious jeopardy of losing a limb if corrective measures aren't taken soon.
