As I’ve been saying....Most of the people I share broad affinity, intellectual interests, and political goals with are leftist intellectuals, mostly academics. But they obsess about liberals they can and do leverage, rather than revanchists who will crush them if given a chance.https://twitter.com/DavidAstinWalsh/status/1293379110841057281 …

Pretty much nothing is mutually exclusive, but it’s a matter of emphasis and affect. It’s odd because the old left viewed the extremist right as the great danger. Now the right is consolidated within one party and is more dangerous than anytime since Jim Crow.

Highlighting the limits and contradictions of one's potential allies does not exclude also building a long-lasting and meaningful coalition with these allies against the right -- in fact it seems a critical prerequisite to doing so.

Obviousky. I spend a lot of time doing both. I just enthusiastically rt’ed an essay ripping the sentimental fetishizing of RBG. It’s a matter of emphasis and temporality.

When you put it like that, is there any evil on the right that liberals AREN'T responsible for? I seriously can't take any more, "Maybe four more years of Trump would actually get us closer to where we need to be" arguments.
-
‘There’s no evil on the right liberals aren’t to blame for’ is also the right’s argument, weird!
