To me, that seems obvious. To you, that seems obvious. But to evangelicals, the distinction is important. It's OK for somebody who serves the movement in a purely temporal way—as an interface between God's Elect and the wicked secular world—to be crooked, b/c the world is crooked

There is no distinction. I come from this life. The Falwell name is synonymous with evangelical religious leadership.
