There are a lot of good free legal research tools, and some attorneys go with the free alternatives, but the paid databases aren't so expensive that most lawyers would find it worthwhile not to use them.

Like, the fear of citing a case that was overturned, but you don't know because you can't shepardize/keycite is too high to bet a client's case on it when you can just pass the cost onto them.
