4 of the 10 countries w/the highest Covid-19 death tolls are in the Americas (in descending order: USA (1st), Brazil (2nd), Mexico (3rd), & Peru (9th). Within a couple days, the Mexican death toll will put it 3rd. And then there's Chile whose toll per million is enormous.
I was thinking that settler-colonial societies are uniquely ill-equipped for this virus (although to be fair, New Zealand has done well & Canada/Australia passably well).

Geographically, I would put them all in the 'well' category. Canada, being next to a hotspot, and relying on trade moved by ALL modes of transportation makes it unique among the other 2. Much easier to isolate pilots, or the crew of a cargo ship than 1000's of daily drivers...

Won't work, Jeet. Brazil's on course to vie w/the US for worst toll, w/Mexico not far behind (most Mexicans I know think the toll to be twice the official one). Peru's a disaster, even though government hasn't been incompetent. Meanwhile the news from India grows worse & worse.

India and Brazil aren't surprises. Peru and Chile have been worse than I was expecting.
