Isn't their good public health reasons for doing so -- there are usually copy-cats after reports of high-profile suicides.
I think reticence out of worries about copy-cat cases doesn't diminish the gravity of suicide act -- quiet the reverse. It's what we can't speak that is sometimes most seriously taken.

I sort of agree--the attention that a widely-covered suicide gets, even if all call it a tragedy, helps drive imitation. One can be in a state of mind where one thinks "that act was successful, they got care and love," without connecting the dots that they will not appreciate it
